Members of the CSU faculty will perform Por la Fuerza las Tierras at the Aries Composers Festival (formerly Rocky Mountain Contemporary Music Festival), a three-day festival featuring new works from across the country. Composer Michael Colgrass will be this year’s special guest.

Baritone Jonas Sakalauskas and soprano Ilona Pliavgo will perform excerpts from And Jill Came Tumbling After, a new opera written (with librettist John Grimmett) for the Baltic Chamber Opera Theater while in residency at Kražiai’s M.K. Sarbievijaus Cultural Center.  Film excerpts from the premiere of Julius will also be shown.

Houston’s Frame Dance Productions will present ecouter, an event featuring original choreography by Lydia Hance and original works by three local composers. The Saint Petersburg Contemporary Music Center will host a performance of Rupture along with works by John Cage, Elliott Carter, Augusta Read Thomas, and other American composers at a concert at the annual Saint Petersburg International New Music Festival.  Performing the work will be Saint Petersburg’s own PRO-ARTE eNsemble. The concert is supported by the Aaron Copland Fund for Music.

Six Miniatures and Live Bass Improv will be performed along with works by composers Robert McClure and Stephen Bachicha at an outdoor concert that takes advantage of one of Houston’s cultural landmarks, The Orange Show Monument. NANOworks Opera Company will present Layover in two free public performances as part of Classical Revolution Cincinnati.  Titled “Layover Overlay,” the event will feature another one-act comic opera by the same name written by composer Sarah Hersh and librettist Brad Fairchild. What’s more, the librettist for my Layover, Katherine Krueger, will perform one of the soprano roles in Hersh’s Layover. It’s all so wonderfully complicated!
