Program Notes

Grimmy was commissioned by the River Oaks Chamber Orchestra for performance at the annual Musical and Literary Ofrenda hosted by Lawndale Art Center in Houston as part of its Día de los Muertos celebration. The text commemorates a childhood friend who passed away recently.

Grimmy!
Let’s go on an adventure.
Let’s climb like spiders
Through the bamboo patch.
Let’s wander from the trail
And get lost for hours.
Let’s run home when
The garage door to the haunted house opens.

— Charles Halka

Timothy Jones, baritone; Alecia Lawyer, oboe;
Suzanne LeFevre, viola; Shino Hayashi, cello
Performed live at Lawndale Art Center
