(They began with Impact, from the young north american composer Charles Halka, which uses as its principal motive a “giant thud”: musical material that sounds like a fall and fatal blow.)

(From the American Charles Halka, the work titled Impact.  In general, a meticulous and varied use of percussion not as a motoric driver, but rather as a color palette.  Here and there, fleeting sonic ghosts from another time, well integrated into the piece as a whole.  Also, a good handling of contrasts, dynamic as well as textural, and at times, an arrangement of sound materials based on a hint of structuralism.)

-Juan Arturo Brennan, La Jornada (5/24/14)
